Tihar

Last week marked the celebration of the festival of Tihar, here in Nepal. This is a 5 day festival with individual days celebrating crows and dogs,(even police dogs were decorated with garlands and anointed with dyes.) The following day celebrated cows who received a similar treatment. (See the attached photo). The final day was when sisters bless their brothers again bedecking them with garlands and putting make up on their faces particularly on the forehead. They also prepare a special meal for them.
In addition there is much dancing, singing and letting off of fireworks as well as putting out nightlights to welcome the Goddess Laxmi as part of the equivalent of the Divali festival.
All in all a very noisy but happy festival.
